The wait continues as the public school teachers' work-to-rule industrial action stretches into its second week.

And the Bermuda Trade Union Congress has thrown its support behind the move, calling the teachers' action "justified".

Bermuda Union of Teachers spokesperson Michael Charles told last night that, with no meetings between any of the parties held since last week, "I would imagine that whatever is planned will remain the way it is.

"We are still waiting to hear something from Government."

Public school teachers have been working to rule since the beginning of last week, after they accused Government of reneging on a pay formula.

According to the Bermuda Union of Teachers, Government at the last minute said teachers should be paid pro rata with 15 percent knocked off to reflect their long holidays ? a move which the union said goes against the aims of interest based bargaining.

The BTUC agreed. "We believe that Government should make an honest attempt to get back to the table and revisit the interest-based process, and through this they will find a solution in the interest of all," the Congress said in a statement over the weekend.

"The Government insisted that the teachers agree that their conclusions be binding on both parties, which the teachers agreed to.

"It is also worth mentioning that this binding resolution did not recommend prorating. This appears to be an issue that was pulled out of the hat after both sides' interests were declared and agreed to for discussion, and as per interest-based bargaining principles should not now be a part of discussions."
