Bermuda got a spectacular view of the full lunar eclipse on Thursday night as cloudy skies cleared long enough to see the two-hour event.

Royal Gazette photographer David Skinner captured the full sequence of the eclipse (above), and the full eclipse (right). The process started before midnight and ended around 2 a.m.

The reddish cast is created by sunlight that is refracted by Earth's atmosphere, then reflected by the moon

After the midnight "show", cloudy conditions returned and rainstorms yesterday after noon dumped more than one inch of rain on the Island, according to weather forecasters.

The Bermuda Weather service is predicting that the poor conditions will clear by Sunday at the latest as a low pressure system moves away from the Island.

For today, it is predicting a mostly cloudy day with a few showers.
