Vandals hack open grave

Human remains were visible after a grave was hacked open at the Prospect Military Cemetery yesterday morning.

National Trust workers discovered the open grave around 9 a.m. The stone slab covering the grave had been hacked into and pushed over, National Trust property manager Steve Conway said. The grave was repaired by around 11.30 a.m.

"We don't want to say too much more because of family connections," said Mr. Conway. There were three names on the grave, he said. "It's disturbing ... It was deliberately opened."

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said:"The cemetery is near a residential area, and we would ask that anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area or anyone with any information about this incident to contact 295-0011."
