A Magistrate yesterday remanded a man in custody for a second psychiatric evaluation.

Junior Ming, 38, of no fixed abode, had been remanded for a psychiatric evaluation after pleading guilty to gripping hold of a woman's knapsack in April on Burnaby Hill.

The Royal Gazette had reported that Ming had explained to the court that he only committed the offence to get the attention of the Police, because he was going blind - he said he had previously gone to the Police Station to ask for help with his eyesight, but that they had laughed at him.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves said: "I have good news for you."

But he explained that before he could commit Ming, he needed a second opinion and a date on the current report.

Ming stood silent through most of the proceedings, except when asked by Mr. Greaves if he had begun treatment already, to which he answered 'yes'.

Mr. Greaves remanded Ming in custody until May 27.
