Man hospitalised with severe burns
A man was hospitalised with serious burns after a shed on Cottage Hill Lane caught fire, Saturday afternoon.
The 40-year-old Hamilton Parish man is receiving treatment for second and third degree burns to his legs, buttocks and right hand. He is currently in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit of KEMH.
Central Fire Dispatch received the emergency call, originally thought to be a brush fire, around 5.20 p.m. A Fire spokesperson said that while en route, dispatch updated the truck that somebody had been burned in the fire.
Once at the scene, Fire Service personnel found what appeared to be a pile of logs completely involved. Firefightes extinguished the blaze with ten minutes.
It later emerged the pile of logs were part of a shed which had collapsed in the blaze, said the Fire spokesman. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. Any witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 1-800-623-8477.
