Curfew ordered for drug addicts

Two drug addicts who stole to fuel their addictions were given suspended jail terms by a judge on Monday.

Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons wished Norman Sonny Bell and Dwayne Gino Gilbert luck at Supreme Court One and told them: ?I know it?s a tough struggle.?

Bell, 45, of Rockland Crescent, Warwick, admitted burgling a Paget home and stealing goods worth $155 on September 9, 2004.

Gilbert, 43, of Granaway Heights Road, Southampton, admitted 16 charges including theft, obtaining credit by deception, forgery and uttering false documents.

The offences occurred all over the Island in July 2003. Both were given a two-year jail term, suspended for three years, and a three-year probation order. And both were ordered by Mrs. Justice Simmons to enrol on a residential drug treatment programme, stick to a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, abstain from drugs and alcohol and undergo substance testing.
