A nation-wide television show this week to select the world's next female singing superstar will have a Bermudian flavour.

For Sasha Allen, one of the competitors in the New York contest, which will be featured all this week on VH1, is the granddaughter of Bermuda-born classical and jazz pianist Trea Helen Henderson.

The 20-year-old's great-grandmother Agatha Henderson will be well-known to generations of Bermudians as she taught hundreds how to play classical piano.

Sasha features on the nightly VH1 show "Born to Diva" where she and her family are interviewed at home in New York and it is understood she mentions her Bermudian heritage.

She competes against 3,000 other hopefuls in the New York heat and if she wins she will go on take on winners from Miami, London, Philadelphia and Atlanta.
