Butler gets backing of Warwick branch

Dale Butler

PLP MP Dale Butler has been selected by the Warwick North East Branch to be their Progressive Labour Party's candidate for the next election.

The decision was made on Thursday night but Mr. Butler will have to be approved by the party's candidates selection committee, the executive committee and Central Committee before he is finally officially adopted to stand in constituency 25.

Mr. Butler has been canvassing the area for the past three months, after being given the go ahead by the Warwick branch. But changes in the party's organisational structure made that decision null and void.

The party has changed its constitution to require as many branches as there are constituencies, meaning it has to disband the current nine parish based branches and set up 36 new ones.

Mr. Butler had originally staked out Warwick South East (constituency 24) for election purposes and spent some months and thousands of dollars canvassing the area before the Warwick branch put the brakes on that and offered him Warwick North East (number 25) instead which he accepted.
