Bermuda was deluged with heavy rain yesterday after two weather systema collided over the Island. Meteorologist Kimberley Stevenson said 0.8 inches of rain had been recorded in the east end but in the west end it was an inch to an inch and a half more because the downpour had started earlier - at 3 a.m - while it took four or more hours to reach the east.

Lt. John Thompson of the Bermuda Fire Service said firecrews had to pump out water from two flooded homes.

Ms Stevenson said the warm front from the south had hit another system from the north and created a downpour for 20 square miles directly over Bermuda. She said: "If you went 20 miles in any direction it was bright sunshine. It was a very localised event."
