Governor Sir John Vereker's wife Lady Judy Vereker described yesterday how she confronted an intruder in the grounds of Government House, where Prime Minister Tony Blair and his family were staying.

Lady Vereker approached the man at lunchtime on Wednesday after spotting him on the grounds of Government House looking for a model aeroplane which he said had crashed.

"I saw someone who I didn't recognise, and given that it is private property I thought it would be a good idea to approach the gentleman and he seemed worried about his plane," she told The Royal Gazette yesterday.

"I told him I thought he should leave his name with one of our officials and I escorted him to the first Police officer and we offered to find his plane.

"It was innocent. He knew it was Government House and he was determined to find his plane and he decided to come and look for it.

"But we had the Prime Minister visit us and we felt an extra responsibility that we keep the place protected and safe.

"I felt genuinely upset for him because he was upset his plane had gone missing.

"It's a happy ending for us and a happy ending for him if he finds his plane. The staff are still looking for it."
