?Help stop the violence?

Peaceful demonstrators greeted morning commuters on Thursday with signs urging residents to work together to reach solutions on youth violence.

Some of the signs read, ?We Care About Our Young People? and ?Save Our Youth from Self Destruction?.

Selena Woolridge, who organies staff from the Department of Court Services, said the aim of the demonstration was to encourage public dialogue after last Sunday?s horrific outburst of violence at Wellington Oval.

Ms Woolridge said preventing violent outbursts among young people can no longer be the sole responsibility of the Government. She believes the emotion expressed in wake of Sunday?s gang violence can be used as fuel for discussion.

?The issue of youth violence affects everyone ? we as concerned parents, neighbours, social clubs, Bermudians, and ex-pats need to address the issue because it affects everyone,? she said.

?Our young people need to know that we love, care for and support them and that we want to work with them in resolving the challenges that lead to problem behaviours like those witnessed on Sunday.?
