A Good Samaritan who helped to apprehend an alleged robber has been praised by the Acting Minister for Labour and Home Affairs.

Neletha Butterfield said she wished to commend the unnamed individual who grabbed hold of the suspect after he allegedly robbed a visitor on Sunday at Albuoys Point in Hamilton.

Ms Butterfield said: "It takes tremendous courage and bravery to put one's own safety at risk and this individual showed true Bermudian spirit.

"Fortunately, harm did not fall upon the member of the public doing his civic duty.

"While we encourage citizens to be the eyes and ears of Police when confronted with (alleged) acts of wrong-doing, I want to encourage individuals in the community who see acts of (alleged) wrong doing to use caution and assess the situation and, wherever possible, involve the Police."

Ms Butterfield said it was unfortunate that these kinds of incidents happened in Bermuda, but she said Government was working with the Police to ensure that members of the community were kept safe and protected.

A man appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with robbing the visitor.
