Reports that American Airlines is cutting a flight from Boston to Bermuda came as news to Bermuda International Airport operations manager James Howes last night.

"They had not mentioned that to us," he told The Royal Gazette, "but we will certainly look into it."

The Boston Globe ran a story yesterday stating that several airlines have already cut back on existing service at Logan International Airport. The cancelled flights, according to airline officials, were the result of the war in Iraq.

An American Airlines spokeswoman was quoted in the article as saying American Airlines will reduce flights next month from Logan to four Caribbean destinations, including Bermuda.

And a press release from American Airlines stated selected flights in international markets would be reduced, with total international flights about 13 percent lower than planned.

"These limited adjustments primarily affect international flying and a small number of domestic flights, and are in line with reductions we're seeing throughout the industry due to the war in Iraq and economic conditions," said Henry Joyner, senior vice president of planning for the airline.

Efforts to contact Transport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown were unsuccessful last night.
