Bermuda's first draft Parliamentary Register for the new single seat electoral system can now be viewed at post offices across the Island.

The public is being invited to check the list, which identifies registered voters, their addresses and their constituencies.

The list is in two volumes - one each for 18 constituencies.

One segment of the public that will be keenly examining the list for inaccuracies is the Opposition United Bermuda Party (UBP) which has claimed that the list could be 35 percent inaccurate in some constituencies and called for a wholesale re-registration before the next election.

The Parliamentary Registrar, Sabrina Phillips, has opted instead to adapt the register electronically and has embarked on an Island-wide public information campaign in an attempt to make sure that people understand the changes.

She denied the claim that the register is that inaccurate.

Inaccuracies crop up in the register when people move out of a constituency and do not update their registrations as required by law.

Mrs. Phillips has said in recent weeks that her office is prevented by law from unilaterally updating a listing.

A search function called the "constituency finder" to allow people to find out their new constituencies is on the website www.elections.gov.bm. Eligible voters can also register and update their registrations by filling in an online form, printing it out and taking it into the Parliamentary Registrar's office.
