People wishing to donate to the Afghan relief fund have until the end of the month to contribute.

So far more than $50,000 has been raised for the war-torn country and Government has pledged to match the public contribution and will go as high as contributing $75,000.

A cabinet spokesman said the public had been less than forthcoming in their support.

He said: "Bermudians who are renowned for giving to those less fortunate than themselves may, with a sense of national pride, wish to make a greater contribution."

The money goes towards the UN's Afghan Appeal fund which hopes to raise $584 million worldwide.
