Blaze causes $30,000 of damage

An estimated $30,000 worth of damage was sustained after Bermuda Stripping and Refinishing Company was hit by fire early yesterday morning.

According to Lt. Dana Lovell of the Bermuda Fire Service, a passer-by noticed smoke coming from the Middle Road, Devonshire business. When they went closer to investigate, they noticed the interior of the building was on fire and called 911 at around 6.30 a.m.

Lt. Lovell said although the fire was contained within 12 minutes, substantial damage was done to the interior of the building.

"We are treating the fire as being suspicious," Lt. Lovell said.

The Bermuda Fire Service is appealing for anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Middle Road, Devonshire area before 6.30 a.m. Witnesses should contact Lt. Ronnie Aguiar or Lt. Lovell on 292-5555.
