St. George's man banned from driving for three years

A St. George's man was fined $1,500 and disqualified from driving for 36 months in Magistrates' Court last week for driving while impaired.

Ondrey Ascento, 43, of Ballast Point Road, was stopped by Police on November 6 last year along Kindley Field Road at about 6.40 p.m.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told the court that Ascento admitted to having had "a few shots and a beer".

Ms Clarke added that Ascento has nine previous convictions for impaired driving.

Ascento told the court his partner of more than 12 years had been very sick with cancer and he had taken care of her and her family.

He said he was "frustrated" by the situation, made even worse when she died in December.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner gave Ascento until April 29 to pay his fine.
