Call for cellphone crackdown

UBP Senator Kenneth Bascome (pictured) yesterday called again for Government to consider legislation banning cellphone use while driving.

In the wake of letters to the editor as well as comments on the radio talk shows calling for such a ban, Sen. Bascome said the consequences of apathy in this matter could be significant. ?There are going to be some serious accidents on our roads,? he told Senators during the Senate session yesterday morning.

Cellphones are banned while driving in the US state of New York, while American studies have shown that drivers suffer from a kind of ?tunnel vision? that endangers others as well as themselves while using a cellphone ? whether it be hand-held or hands free.
