Lantana to break ground today
Work begins today on the much-anticipated reconstruction of the long-closed Lantana resort in Somerset.
Premier Alex Scott, Governor Sir John Vereker and a host of other dignitaries will assemble at the site at 1 p.m to break ground on an ambitious project scheduled for completion for the 2007 tourist season.
The ultimate goal is to transform the former cottage colony into a world-class resort and spa centre, catering for upscale luxury and "wellness seekers" world-wide.
The new Lantana Spa and Resort will boast 40 hotel suites, six private residences, six yacht club villas, 17 beachfront villas, a 25,000 square foot spa and conference centre, a 25 slip-marina, gourmet restaurants, a tennis and croquet club and a yacht club.
As part of the ultra-luxury pitch, services will include features such as private-jet packages, personal butlers, private catering, plasma televisions and wireless multi-media facilities.
