A man claiming to be the nephew of murdered Chena Trott was fined for unlawful assault in Magistrates' Court.

Angelo Shaki Trott, 22, of Simons Drive, Warwick, pleaded guilty to hitting a man on the head with an unknown object.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told the court that on August 26 of last year the victim had been standing in his yard talking to another man when Trott rode up with a friend on a cycle.

Trott had a red scarf wrapped around his face as he approached the victim. Trott then hit the man on the back of the head, causing him to receive stitches at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

When Trott was arrested on September 8, he told Police he had hit the man because he had beaten up his female cousin and it was less than two weeks after his aunt Chena Trott had been killed.

Trott said: “I smacked him because he had hit my cousin and my aunt had been murdered.”

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves said: “Lashing a man in the back of his head - what if you had murdered him? What if you had killed him?

“Your cousin must go to the Police and make a report.”

Trott asked Mr. Greaves for time to pay the $500 fine, rather than having to pay it immediately. Mr. Greaves asked: “You lick up a man and don't have any money to pay - you fellows get too emotional. The Lord says ‘vengeance is mine'.”
