Policeman attacked

An off-duty Police officer was punched and kicked in the face after twice warning a 21-year-old St. George's man about his behaviour on Saturday morning.

The officer saw the man urinating in a doorway on Bermuda House Lane in the City of Hamilton.

After the officer displayed his badge, he told the 21-year-old to move on as there were other pedestrians in the area but the man began to swear at him.

When the officer warned him again, the 21-year-old punched him in the face causing the officer to fall to the ground. He then kicked the officer in the face before escaping on foot.

On his way to Hamilton Police Station the officer spotted his assailant trying to enter an area establishment.

The man tried to run off when he saw the officer flag down a passing Police car but after a brief chase the man was apprehended and detained.

The officer received treatment for grazes and swelling to the face at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
