Bermuda's new Governor, Sir John Vereker, should be arriving in early April, according to Acting Governor Tim Gurney.

Sir John's arrival has been delayed due to the US-led war against the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, The Royal Gazette has learned.

Sir John's current duties in Britain as permanent secretary for International Development have become even more critical with recent developments in Afghanistan.

Since the rout of the Taliban regime, the department has been working with international agencies to assist in the country's reconstruction. Sir John was originally expected to take up his new duties on the Island next month.
