Law catches up with traffic offender

The law caught up with a Pembroke man who was about to be freed on bail to face assault charges in March when Prosecutors presented a Magistrate with proof he had failed to show in court last October on traffic offences.

Gladwyn N?Tico Smith, 22, was about to walk free from Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner?s court yesterday after denying that on August 5 he obstructed, assaulted and caused bodily harm to a Police officer in the course of his duties, violently resisted arrest and escaped from custody.

Mr. Warner set bail at $1,000 for a March 8 trial date but was then shown a new charge sheet. It was established Smith failed to show for an October trial for a slew traffic offences and had not paid other fines. Smith admitted the offences and was ordered to pay the $4,100 total before he could leave the court.
