After defying Bermuda Regiment commands during Sunday's Recruit Camp, Nelson Bascome III has appealed to the Governor to overturn the decision that he must serve his term with Regiment.

Second-in-Command of Training Company Lt. Wayne Caines told The Royal Gazette: “Pte. Bascome is presently being housed in the Regimental Guard.

“He has appealed to the Governor to have the Exemptions Tribunals decision overturned. We are expecting to receive a response by tomorrow (Tuesday) and based on the Governor's decision we will decide where to go from there.”

Pte. Bascome went before the Exemptions Tribunal before the start of Recruit Camp but was denied being let out of his three-year Regimental duties including the two-week training camp.

On Sunday morning he arrived at Warwick Camp but he refused to comply with commands - including replying ‘Sir' when spoken to.

He also was not dressed in his military issued gear.

Regimental Police escorted him to the Regiment prison, where he remained overnight, after he refused to listen to the Sergeant Major while the recruits were being sectioned into platoons.
