Colour Sgt. Wayne Augustus was sacked from the Bermuda Regiment for financial irregularities although all missing funds have now been recovered, its commanding officer confirmed yesterday.

It was reported in November that Colour Sgt. Augustus had left the Regiment after ?improprieties? were discovered although no further details were available at that time.

But the Regiment?s commanding officer, Lt. Col Eddie Lamb confirmed to that Colour Sgt. Augustus? departure was related to the misappropriation of funds.

Sources have told this newspaper that Regiment found some paycheques were short, with sums running into hundreds of dollars missing ? although this money has since been reimbursed to the individuals.

?It is now a closed issue and any funds that were not accounted for have now been accounted for,? said Lt. Col. Lamb.

?As a result of negligence or misappropriation a sum was unaccounted for but now all sums have been accounted for.

?It was the case that duties were not being discharged to the standard expected and as a result of the investigation, he is no longer employed by the Regiment.

?Any money that was not accounted for has been, and no member of the Regiment is out of pocket.?

He added that the Police were not called in as he was satisfied the matter had been fully dealt with.

?We conducted our own investigation and I am satisfied that it has been handled internally. I made the decision that there was no need to call in the Police,? he added.
