Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault at Club 40 Nightclub in the early hours of New Year's Day to come forward.

A 33-year-old Prison Officer, from Devonshire, received a head wound, broken nose, and lacerations above an eye, during the disturbance on Tuesday morning.

Police attended the scene and found the victim leaning against a wall. The wound to his head was bleeding profusely.

He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he remained last night on a general ward. His condition was described as stable.
