Twelve candles were lit to represent the twelve countries effected by the devastating tsunamis during a special service at St. Theresa's in Hamilton yesterday morning.
Catholic parishioners were joined by members of the public in a special memorial service for those who died in the Boxing Day tragedy.
The Bishop of Hamiton, the Most Rev. Robert J. Kurtz, gave a moving sermon, followed by special prayers for those who died, as well as survivors. It was followed by a moment of silence.
A few Asian nationals attended yesterdays' memorial service and were seen holding hands throughout the service.
A special collection was held and Rev. Kurtz said the money would be sent to help relief efforts.
