The shape of things to come for Caroline

Caroline Troncossi brings new work to the Edinburgh Gallery, on Bermuda's West End.

When Caroline Troncossi's one-woman exhibition opens in the Edinburgh Gallery on Friday, viewers will discover that the style of her work is a departure from her well-known blue and green minimal abstract seascapes.

"They have been compared to Georgia O'Keefe's style, but with more transparency," the artist says.

The paintings reflect the show's title: `Flora and Fauna', with the subject matter taken directly from forms in nature.

"I have been looking at a lot of flora and fauna carefully, taking in their lines and growth patterns, and from my observations I have been zoning in on a particular area that intrigues me and enlarging this on paper," Miss Troncossi says.

"The lines I have chosen are sensual, and I became fascinated by how each shape interacts with the next, and what shapes are produced with the negative spaces."

She also intends for the paintings to remind viewers of parts of the human body, which she sees as providing an interesting parallel between it and the natural forms of the theme.

"The dramatic overall colouring and look of the work is typical of me, as my paintings tend to catch the eye and embrace (the viewer) in the space," the artist adds.

`Flora and Fauna' opens to the public on Saturday, October 11 and continues through October 23. For further information see the Bermuda Calendar.
