WRC aims to be ‘outlet’ for women facing Covid challenges

A charity leader said her organisation was an “outlet” for women who faced challenges brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

Tina Laws, the executive director of the Women’s Resource Centre, which is today launching a series of webinars, explained that services were adapted to suit clients’ needs.

She said difficulties in “these unprecedented times” included the loss of family and friends, jobs and homes.

Ms Laws pointed out that many people were home schooling or working in isolation.

She added that some had health problems or were “coping" in their relationships.

Ms Laws said that other adjustments included mask-wearing and regular coronavirus testing and that people were also “challenged with staying in their bubble and managing their daily regimes”.

She added: “It is very important that WRC provide an outlet.

“We are a resource centre and because of that, our community supportive services are constantly adjusting to meet the needs of our women and their families.

“Ultimately, we would love to provide in-person workshops, however, in keeping within the Government Covid-19 restrictions and guidelines, we have no other choice but to provide webinars until further notice.”

The series will start today with a Reboot Yourself session.

Jennifer Outerbridge-Smith, the speaker, said: “This workshop is for all women to stop, take stock, practice self-awareness and implement reboot habits.

“The benefits are more balance, less stress, better overall health, affirming self-value.”

Ms Outerbridge-Smith, a corporate trainer and workshop facilitator, added that the session will "provide valuable perspective“ for people who take part.

It will "offer tools on how to both improve their current state of being along with practical tips on how to reboot or reset“.

Ms Outerbridge-Smith said that she will help people to “take stock” and understand their circumstances through self-awareness.

A post on the WRC Facebook page added: “This workshop was created for women who are ready to create change in their life, and if you're uncertain what that looks like, you don't want to miss it.

“Not only will you be given new tools, but effective ways to incorporate them into your daily life.”

Other topics in the webinar series include Developing Healthy Relationships and advice on how to raise sons who have anger problems.

Ms Laws said: “As WRC continues to meet the growing demands of our women and their families with our community driven education programme, we also want to remind you of our counselling programme for singles and couples, mothers and daughters, or siblings.”

She said support was also available for people in the LGBTQ community.

Ms Laws added that the charity worked with other organisations to offer free legal clinics and divorce mediation.

* The Reboot Yourself workshop will run from 6.15pm on September 22. To register or find out more about the webinar series, e-mail wrc@wrcbermuda.com or call 295-3882.
