Vaccination code can be used overseas, Government

A code that shows someone has been vaccinated against the coronavirus can be used overseas, a Government spokeswoman said yesterday.

She added that the technology provided a “safe and secure” way to confirm that someone has had the jabs.

The spokeswoman explained that vaccination certificates can be verified on the island and overseas through a scanning tool at verify.gov.bm.

Instructions on the certificate direct users to the site.

The spokeswoman said: “The best advice for anyone travelling abroad with a Bermuda vaccination certificate is to present it and direct any organisation or establishment wishing to verify it to verify.gov.bm for the QR code to be scanned using any smart device with an internet connection and a camera.

“Once scanned, the vaccination certificate holder’s information will appear, including their full name, gender, type of vaccine they received and dates of each dose.”

She added: “Bermuda was one of the first countries in the world to have verifiable certificates, as many countries around the world still rely on traditional vaccination cards, which present greater risks of forgery.

“While there are currently no global standards for vaccination certificates, the QR codes found on those issued by the Government of Bermuda are a safe and secure way to allow for verification and to ensure the certificates cannot be forged.”
