Surely, the Church of England can come to St Peter’s rescue
Dear Sir,
The report on the oldest Anglican church in the western hemisphere having financial problems because of a lack of tourists and Covid-19 is concerning. Being part of a World Heritage Site is yet another reason for conservation.
The Friends of St Peter’s is a worthy organisation and I wish it well with its efforts. However, I cannot understand why some of the monies the Church of England receives from its property holdings in Bermuda cannot be used to save this historic church.
I may be wrong, but I believe the Church of England has considerable property holdings in the City of Hamilton and may have more in other parts of the island.
I also believe that one property on Front Street had a substantial amount of money spent on renovations during the past decade.
Perhaps one of your readers could enlighten me on this matter.
