Conference to help improve rights for the disabled to be held

A disabilities charity is to hold a virtual conference next week on the best ways to campaign for rights for disabled people.

Common Ground, organised by WindReach, an outdoor activity centre for disabled people, was designed to break down stereotypes about disabled people.

Alyssa Frick, the life skills occupational therapist for WindReach, said: “This conference has something for everyone and disabled individuals, their support networks, business owners and the community at large can all gain new skills and knowledge to help improve the experience of disabled people in Bermuda.”

The conference will feature Jessica Lewis, Bermuda’s first Paralympic athlete, as well as Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Social Development and Seniors

Ms Frick said: “All of our speakers provide a wide breadth of knowledge and experience on their various topics.

“We are delighted to have some returning speakers as well as ones that can offer fresh perspectives.”

The WindReach event was organised to coincide with the UN’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities next Friday.

The conference will run from 9am to 3pm on December 3 and will be broken up into five segments.
