McCabe and Brown are Hood's heroes
Robin Hood reclaimed sole possession of the Commercial A Division on Saturday with a fine 2-0 shut out of Key West Rangers at Bernard Park.
After being held to a 3-3 draw during their previous outing by Lobster Pot, goals by Jarlath McCabe and Shane Brown saw Hood return to their winning ways and keep their unbeaten record intact. But all was not merry in the Hood camp as both Donnacha Smyth and former Somerset Trojan Kevin Bailey had their names entered into the referee's book for unsporting conduct.
Hood now face second place MR Onions in a top of the table clash this Saturday at Bernard Park.
MR Onions, meanwhile, battled to a 1-1 draw against St.George's All-Stars at Shelly Bay Field. Lionel Cann gave All-Stars a 1-0 lead on the stroke of half-time only to have Onions' Paul Coates draw the teams level midway through the second half and earn his team a deserved share of the spoils.
All-Stars Terrance Carlington and Freddie Hall both received bookings for unsporting conduct. St.George's, meanwhile, moved up to fifth place in the standings.
North Village Rams picked up their fourth win of the season to hold down third spot in the standings after edging by Tuff Dogs 2-1 at Bernard Park.
Goals from Treadwell Walker and second half substitute Allen Smith ensured Rams of the win. Ironically though, both Walker and Smith were booked in the second half to put a damper on their otherwise fine performances.
Kevin Mooney converted Tuff Dogs' sole strike.
BAA Wanderers emerged as the division's biggest winners on Saturday when they crushed Prison Officers 12-0 at Malabar.
Both Martin Jones and Jahmal Mills scorched the net on four occasions while Alan Glasgow notched an equally superb hat-trick. It was then left to Gary Stewart to bury the hatchet and prolong Officer's woes, who by the way have now conceded 48 goals in five matches. They have also endured a miserable time in front of goal with only one tally to their credit.
Lobster Pot recorded their second win of the season, a 3-1 win over Vasco Mariners during a heated affair at White Hill Field thanks to goals through Vispo Guiseppe, Troy Berkeley and Dave Allison. Four players received bookings in this match with Vasco's Andy Chiappa and Pot's Darren Choonucksing, Saleem Mukuddem and Marek Noha all seeing yellow. No information could be obtained on Mariner's goalscorer.
PHC Raiders opened up a three point lead at the top of the B Division standings after twice coming from behind to hand fast-fading Somerset Extros a 5-2 thumping at Southampton Oval.
Ronue Cann gave Extros an early lead. However, Raiders were soon back on even keel after Michael Trott's close range shot beat Extros' 'keeper Tyrone Simons.
But Extros regained the lead in the 27th minute through Edgar Smith who was also unlucky not to have scored a second goal moments later when his close range drive rattled the bar.
But two minutes before the break, former Zebras striker Sammy (Snake) Swan levelled the teams and hardly before the dust had settled gave Raiders a 3-2 lead at the half.
It was then left to current Zebras coach Mark Wade and second half substitute Orion (Jah T) Thomas to round out the scoring.
Extros slipped down a spot to fifth place in the standings.
PHC take on Devonshire All-Stars this Saturday at Shelly Bay Field in a prelude to Monday's Martonmere Cup Final between the two side's current Premier Division bunch.
Dockyard Falcons continued their rich vein of early season form at Malabar where they handed visiting Devonshire All-Stars a 3-1 defeat.
Duane (Box) DeRosa was the toast of the town after netting twice, while Junior DeSilva grabbed Falcons' other goal. Lorenzo Symonds scored a late consolation for the visitor's via the penalty spot.
Devonshire remained in third spot.
Somerset Eagles were the division's biggest winners on Saturday, blasting ten-men Devonshire Lions 11-3 at White Hill Field.
Eddie (Agassi) Calendar and Shane (Brains) Proctor netted twice for the home team, while Warren (Big-D) Iris, Joseph Moniz, Dion Minors, Oranthus Turner, Paul Humphreys, Timmy Telford and a Lions own goal rounded off Eagle's huge win which saw them soar into fourth spot in the tables.
Eagles' Telford and Moniz were both booked.
Bottom dwellers Valley and Wolves Pack, meanwhile, picked up their first wins of the season.
Valley edged by Prospect/Fire 3-2 at Police Field, while Wolves got past Pest Control 2-1 at BAA Field. Horace Landy and Cecil Hendrickson converted for Wolves while Troy Crockwell replied for Control. Wolves' Shannon Tuzo and Aaron Simmons were both booked for dissent.
There was no further information on the match between Valley and Prospect.
Commercial Division action resumes on Saturday.
