Marcus’ Bermuda restaurant will not reopen

Marcus’ Bermuda, the restaurant opened by acclaimed celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson on the island in 2015, has shut its doors for good.

The landmark eatery at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club closed to diners in March 2020 during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic.

But now it has been confirmed that the restaurant will not reopen.

Mr Samuelsson’s signature dishes and the restaurant’s fresh take on Bermudian culinary traditions were an instant hit when Marcus’ Bermuda opened more than six years ago.

Foodies in Bermuda had first sampled Mr Samuelsson’s creative dishes in 2014 at a pop-up venue, Samuelsson at HP.

Once the full restaurant was open, original artwork on the walls and live music added to its appeal.

The award-winning restaurateur, television personality and author operates 12 restaurants worldwide, including the flagship Red Rooster Harlem in New York City.

A spokesman for the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club said in a statement: “After a long and fruitful partnership with the Marcus Samuelsson Group, Hamilton Princess & Beach Club is currently creating a new dining experience in the flagship restaurant space.

“This stems from our ongoing commitment to ensuring we are offering fresh and truly memorable experiences for guests. We are thankful for what Marcus and his team have done to elevate the culinary experience at the Princess and Bermuda.

“This comes as part of a larger revamp of guests’ experiences which includes the Marina Bar, Crown & Anchor Terrace and the under way modernisation of the Princess Ballrooms and Regency Terrace.

“We look forward to sharing the details of these renovations and our exciting new dining experience in 2022.”

A spokesperson for Marcus Samuelsson Group said: “We are so grateful to the incredible staff throughout the years in Bermuda and the many guests who dined with us along the way.

“The challenges of pandemic have been unbelievably hard on restaurateurs, everywhere around the globe.

“We appreciate everything our team has done in the face of such hardship and hope for many successful years ahead."
