After working on infrastructure and commercial roll-out, new telecommunication’s provider Horizon Communications is ready to launch its residential service.

At the start, Horizon is offering two simple packages, $100 for 100mbps and $129 for 175mbps.

Horizon Communications CEO Gilbert Darrell said: “Not only are these plans very competitive but we're offering a limited-time offer of three months free, as well as a free Wi-Fi extender.”

Darrell said the commercial roll out for business users was a success, attracting some very large customers.

He feels companies are interested because the company offers an ability to quickly respond to customers’ needs, the fast installation and the competitive pricing of the service.

He said: “Our technology allows for a lot of flexibility that was not available before. Like with any new company there's always challenges that you go through, processes you learn, lessons you take with you as you grow.

“Our initial residential roll-out is not island-wide, but it's pretty extensive and includes coverage areas of Warwick, Southampton, Hamilton Harbor (Belmont, Salt Kettle etc), Pembroke, Devonshire, Harrington Sound, St George's and St David's.

“We're eager to expand our coverage later in the year which will include additional services and options for customers looking to get the most out of their internet experience.

“As we build more infrastructure we will not only be able to cover more communities, but we will also be looking to deploy more service offerings, including internet services for boats, faster speeds and other products, later this year.”

The residential roll out is coming faster than initially anticipated as the company deployed LTE in a number of major locations.

LTE (Long-Term Evolution) is a 4G mobile communications standard which allowed users of the LTE network to see data speeds up to 10 times faster than the 3G networks.

But coupled with Terragraph in selected areas, Horizon can provide their initial residential products and even faster residential speeds in the coming months.

Terragraph is a technology that leverages 60 GHz unlicensed spectrum to deliver fast reliable internet.

It avoids the need for trenching and can be a better alternative to provide fibre-like connectivity at a significantly lower cost. Faster to deploy, it is usually brought to market far more quickly.

Darrell said: “Our installation at the home is typically less than four hours and unlike the other guys we don’t need to dig up the road or garden to get a customer online.

“It's possible we may have self installation kits in the future. But right now, homeowners are signing up on the website. Our team makes contact to get the paperwork sorted and schedule an installation date.

“Currently we have hundreds of intakes for residential service, so we expect this to be a pretty busy year.”
