Friends and family said farewell to former MP Darius Tucker yesterday in a funeral service at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity in Hamilton.

Walter Roban, the Deputy Premier, and Cole Simons, the Leader of the Opposition, both attended the service, along with members of Mr Tucker’s Masonic lodge.

Mr Tucker’s coffin was decorated with a white workman’s hard hat and tools as well as flowers.

Mr Tucker, 56, trained as a carpenter after he left school and had his own business, DT’s Services.

He was married with two sons.

He was elected as the United Bermuda Party MP for Hamilton South in December 2007, where he had been the branch chairman for four years. But he crossed the floor in 2011 to join the ruling Progressive Labour Party.

He stood for the PLP in Paget West in the December 2012 election but lost to Patricia Gordon-Pamplin.

MPs earlier this week remembered Mr Tucker as a role model known for his public service and kind heart.

Mr Tucker’s body was found in his submerged van off Marginal Wharf in St David’s on March 9.
