Police said a St. George's man, who was housesitting for a friend at the residence, told them he had been disturbed by a prowler for two consecutive nights earlier last week.

On Saturday night, he chased the prowler who was described as a thin white male with long "straggly'' hair.

But the man apparently returned on Sunday night and was chased off the property by the dogs.

HANDBAG STOLEN CRM Handbag stolen A Pembroke woman yesterday appealed to anyone who may have information on the theft of her handbag to come forward.

The woman had parked her car in the Admiralty House parking lot on Sunday morning.

Police said she left her handbag in the car, closing all the car windows and locking the doors. When she returned her bag was missing.

The theft was believed to have occurred between 11 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.

Police said if valuables must be left inside parked vehicles, they should be placed in the boot of the car "out of sight, or at the very least, covered over''.

VISITOR FINED $550 CTS Visitor fined $550 An American visitor was yesterday fined $550 for possessing cannabis and cigarette papers.

Jay Hoefer, 32, of Connecticut, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to possessing a controlled drug and drug equipment.

Prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Hoefer was stopped at the Airport and searched on August 24.

Customs officers found cigarette papers in Hoefer's luggage and a plastic bag containing 4.16 grams of cannabis was found in one of his sneakers, Sgt. Dale said.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Hoefer $450 for possessing cannabis and $100 for having the cigarette papers.

WITNESSES SOUGHT POl Witnesses sought Police are still seeking witnesses to the road accident that caused the death of Miss Peggy Lynn Binns.

They are especially appealing to the driver of a truck, not considered at fault in the accident, to come forward. They are also searching for a white woman believed to have been the first person on the scene. She is described as being about five-feet five-inches tall with long dark hair and aged between 25 and 35.

The accident took place at about 10.25 p.m. on Thursday, July 20 on Harrington Sound Road on a bend 300 yards east of the junction with Harrington Hundreds.

The victim was riding her cycle in a westerly direction behind a truck when another cyclist attempted to overtake both Miss Binns and the truck, Police spokesman Sgt. Chris Wilcox said.

The other cycle hit a car head-on travelling in the opposite direction and was thrown into the nearside lane, colliding with Miss Binns.

The truck driver and the female witness are asked to contact P.c. Walter Jackson at the Traffic Department at 295-0011.
