Casey Truran did Bermuda extremely proud after securing a top-ten finish competing at the 53rd Annual IHSA National Championship Horse Show in Pennsylvania.

The Savannah College of Art and Design student placed sixth overall in the Open Equitation competing individually against the top riders in the nation at this level at the event, which was held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Centre in Harrisburg from May 5 to 8.

“The Bermuda Equestrian Federation is delighted that Casey Truran placed sixth in the Open Equitation at the IHSA National Championship, thereby ranking Casey in sixth place overall on the national level,” read a statement from the national federation.

“To even qualify for the prestigious IHSA National Championship, student athletes accumulate points at multiple IHSA Regional competitions held throughout the academic year.

“The top individual student athletes and teams then qualify to compete in IHSA Zone Finals. Only the top finishers at the Zone Finals qualify to compete at the aforesaid IHSA National Championship.

“The Bermuda Equestrian Federation extends its congratulations to Casey on his very commendable achievement.”

Truran is among a trio of local equestrians who have already left their mark competing on the international scene this year.

Kayla Bardgett won the low amateur class in a seven-horse jump off on Lordanos AK, owned by Melissa Shelley Mello, competing at the Equestrian Sports Production Spring Series CSI 3* in Wellington, Florida, last month.

That success came just weeks after compatriot Cody Rego secured multiple titles competing at the 2022 Wellington Equestrian Festival.

Competing on Tanzanite de Semilly, he won the Platinum Performance/United States Equestrian Federation Show Jumping Talent Search 2* and Class 3092 Washington International Horse Show Jumper Phase Cali events.

Rego also placed third in the Hunter Phase Cali, which earned him the overall title for Section A.
