Digicel to introduce gig speeds for faster internet

Stephen Murad: Digicel chief executive officer

Digicel has said it will deliver faster speeds for home fibre internet with the introduction of gigabit speeds from Digicel+.

The company said in a statement Wednesday that the introduction of gigabit speeds will enable homes in Bermuda to do more online faster, such as stream crystal clear 4K HD entertainment, enjoy lag-free online gaming and connect multiple entertainment devices simultaneously.

The introduction of gigabit speeds coincides with the launch of a new suite of Digicel+ fibre plans and bundles with download speeds starting from 400 Mbps for $180 per month up to a superfast 1,000 Mbps (ie, 1Gbps) for $315 per month, ideal, the company said, for homes with multiple streaming devices, pro gamers and professionals.

The new Digicel+ plans come with up to four Smart Wi-Fi units to enhance coverage throughout the entire home.

Stephen Murad, Digicel regional CEO, said: "The last two years have seen another spike in demand for faster fibre home internet. As a result, customers need more speed and capacity to power their digital lives at home. Thanks to our continuous network investments, Digicel+ can now deliver Bermuda's fastest internet speeds that we know our customers need.

"With 1 Gbps, Bermuda has shown once again that it is at the forefront of advances in superfast broadband connectivity. Digicel is committed to supporting growth in Bermuda by providing lightning-fast connectivity."
