A 76-year-old woman was disqualified from driving all vehicles for two years and fined $1,500 in Magistrates’ Court yesterday after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to a man by driving without due care and attention.

Shirley Trott, from Hamilton Parish, initially denied the charge when she first appeared in court for the offence on August 10, but changed her plea on August 29.

The collision involving Trott’s car and a bike driven by Joshua DeFrias happened on September 1 of last year at the junction of Middle Road and Jennings Road in Smiths. Mr DeFrias sustained injuries after the accident.

According to Trott’s lawyer Sara Tucker, Trott was headed west when Mr DeFrias collided with her.

According to Alan Richards, for the Crown, Trott came straight out of the junction when the accident happened.

In addition to disqualifying her from the roads for two years, magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered that Trott pay a $1,500 fine by October 7.
