Dominique Mayho fought off the attentions of last year’s winner Conor White and Tyler Smith in a thrilling sprint finish to win the President’s Cup cycling race yesterday.

The breakaway group of three led after pulling clear from the main pack early on Crawl Hill in the 56-mile race and were split by less than two seconds at the death after a pulsating battle with Mayho getting the better of White by less than two hundredths of a second.

The race was not without incident as the winner of the junior race Cameron Morris was in collision with a car on Harbour Road at the junction with Manse Road while sprinting for the finish.

Morris, who was in a group of about ten of his elders, was pushed into a wall after beginning his challenge and was lucky to escape serious injury but he remounted his bike to complete the course and still managed to win the junior male division.

Just 28 cyclists braved the wind and rain on a cold Sunday morning with Caitlin Conyers coming out on top in the adult female category when beating her sole challenger Erica Hawley by 18 seconds.

After Morris’s accident, he had just two seconds to spare over Jackson Langley in the Junior Male division with Annabelle Miller producing a good effort to win the junior female race.
