Thirty days jail for man who damaged police property

A man who broke a light switch cover at the Hamilton Police Station has been jailed for 30 days.

Christian Sousa-Matias, 23, of no fixed abode, pleaded guiltyto damaging police property when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court six weeks ago and was remanded into custody until his sentencing last week.

Sousa-Matias is currently serving a prison sentence for unpaid fines and Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered that his 30 days starts once his current jail term ends.

In a separate Magistrates’ Court case, Damion Williams, 41, from Pembroke, denied assaulting his fiancee and depriving her of her liberty, after initially admitting it last month.

Mr Tokunbo adjourned the case until January 18 and extended Mr Williams’ $5,000 bail until that time.
