PHC seeking revenge against Parish in FA Cup quarter-final clash

Marco Warren and his PHC Zebras team-mates have plenty of motivation heading into their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Hamilton Parish at PHC Field tonight (8pm).

The hosts are keen to make amends for a humbling 4-0 defeat they suffered at the hands of their opponents during the two sides previous outing in the Premier Division at the same venue on February 2.

“Our team is at full strength and I hope they are as well,” Warren said. “I hope they have everybody that beat us last time because this time, of course, we want to make amends for the mistakes we did last game and continue on our run in the FA Cup.

“We are going against a team that kicked our butt on our home pitch. Parish were ecstatic after the win and deservedly so, but the main thing I told my guys is sport is about not getting too high or too low.

“I just told them not to get too low about this and we will get back to the drawing board and rectify the things we need to.”

The crushing defeat against a rampant Parish halted Zebras charge at the top of the standings.

There is also added incentive for the hosts heading into the intriguing cup tie as they remain on course for a second triple crown, and first in 52 years, having already clinched the Friendship Trophy and still in contention for League and FA Cup honours.

“I think this is probably two years running for a lot of the boys that we have been in the running for the triple crown,” Warren added. “We are trying not to get ahead of ourselves but it’s hard not to scratch the itch of saying a triple crown is on the horizon.

“We have to make sure we take each game one at a time so that we can get to those goals. But we are putting ourselves in good positions, so hopefully we can take advantage.”

Sergio Goater, the Parish coach, is bracing himself for a tough outing against the hosts.

“We will be going in of course with a bit of confidence but you always have to be wary of the backlash because I am sure they are going to try and put it right,” he said.

“I was telling my players if we gave 100 per cent, this time we have to give 200 per cent because it’s going to be even harder.

“But it is FA Cup, so that’s always a special tournament.”

FA Cup quarter-final action continues tomorrow with Premier rivals North Village doing battle with X-Roads Warriors at Bernard Park while First Division Paget Lions will host Corona League side Young Gunz Sound at Southampton Oval.

Young Gunz pulled off the biggest upset in this season’s competition after eliminating Premier Division side Boulevard Blazers in the first round last month.

A new champion will be crowned this year as holders Dandy Town were knocked out by X-Roads in the previous round.

Also scheduled tomorrow is the First Division contest between Devonshire Colts and Wolves at Police Field that was postponed the previous weekend owing to the funeral of former Wolves player and professional golfer Brian Morris.
