Roads ban for man found sleeping behind the wheel

Magistrates' Court

A man who police found asleep at his car wheel has been banned from the roads for 18 months for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Earlington Raynor, 58, from Devonshire, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that police saw Raynor in his parked car on Front Street on January 21 and tried for several minutes to wake him up.

When speaking with him, officers noticed that Raynor’s eyes were red and that his speech was slurred.

He was then taken to the Hamilton Police Station.

In addition to being banned, Raynor was fined $1,500.
