Trio charged with attack on woman
Two women and a man charged with unlawfully wounding a young woman with intent to cause grievous bodily harm were released on bail yesterday.
Sharde Dorika Hassell, 19, Jahnika Ashley Powell, 22 - both of Two Way Lane, Pembroke, and Christopher Lima Ferreira, of Ten Pin Crescent, Warwick appeared in Magistrates’ Court after being remanded into custody two weeks ago.
The three allegedly attacked Jainai Caldwell in the early hours of May 25. They were not required to enter a plea because the matter is indictable and must be heard in Supreme Court.
The matter is set for mention on June 26. The defendants were bailed in the amount of $5,000 each with one surety.
Trespasser given conditional discharge
A man who trespassed at his ex-wife’s home was given a 12-month conditional discharge at Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Jon Eric Petty, 48, of Blue Hole Hill, Hamilton Parish, said he only went into the property on Ducks Puddle Drive on June 6 to collect some of his belongings.
Prosecutor Cindy Clarke told the court Petty came in through the door to his son’s bedroom and began to eat food from his son’s plate before Police were called.
Petty, who admitted trespassing, said: “I was coming to get my computer. It sort of escalated. My ex-wife and I don’t see eye to eye all the time. I guess that’s why she’s my ex-wife. I have no intention of going there again.
“If I need to speak to my son, I’ll deal with him directly. He’s 22. There is no reason why I should ever go there again.”
Magistrate Juan Wolffe told him: “Just don’t go back.”
Cops found cannabis in man’s car
A man caught with marijuana in his car two years ago told a magistrate on Friday he no longer used the drug.
Seitu Okane Ford, 34, of Southampton Estate Road, Sandys, was discovered by Police with 9.49 grams of cannabis on April 29, 2005.
Officers stopped Ford’s car in Devonshire and found the drugs in a plastic twist in his trouser pocket and a plastic bag in the glove compartment of his car. Prosecutor Cindy Clarke said he told officers: “I just smoke weed but I do not sell.”
Ford pleaded guilty to possession of the drug at Magistrates’ Court. “It was two years ago,” he told Magistrate Juan Wolffe. “I have been married, I have a family now. A lot has changed. I have cleaned up my act.” He added that he no longer used the drug.
He was fined $500 and has until August 6 to pay.
Wharehouse burgled
Over the weekend, a thief gained entry into a warehouse and stole a variety of household goods.
On Sunday morning, Police attended a Wellington Street, St. George’s property which had been burgled over the weekend. According to the owner, someone gained entry into the warehouse sometime between 4.55 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday taking tools, electrical equipment, paint and other goods.
In addition to this incident, there were also two other burglaries over the holiday weekend, including one in Pembroke and another in Warwick.
Police are also looking into a theft that took place on Friday at Arnold’s Express on Church Street in Hamilton.
According to the complainant, sometime between 10.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. that day, a blue canvas bag containing pre-paid phone cards were stolen from him by an unknown culprit.
In addition to these thefts, Police report that over the long weekend there were five people arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, 20 reported damage only road traffic collisions, ten road traffic collisions resulting in injury and 11 vehicles stolen.
Men deny importing gaming machines
Three men denied charges of importing gaming machines into the Island yesterday in Magistrates’ Court.
Graham Wall, 63, of Paget, John Thomas Kernan, 52, of Pembroke and David Rocha, 49, of Smith’s, pleaded not guilty to importing 20 gaming machines and accessories including one computer rack, one cashier server, two game servers and one BAS comm server on September 24, 2006.
The men also denied allowing the machines and accessories into The Palace, in Reid Street, for gaming purposes.
The matter is adjourned until this morning. The defendants were released on $2,000 bail.
