Breaking News: "Impossible" to monitor every weekend football game, say Police

Police don’t have the manpower to stand guard over all of the Island’s weekend football games, said Commissioner George Jackson today.

The Commissioner held a press conference this afternoon in response to public criticism after violence broke out at a Saturday match that was not monitored by Police.

Mr. Jackson said it would be “impossible” for officers to attend every one of the 25 matches held throughout the Island each weekend.

Following a game at Southampton Rangers Sports Club on Saturday, a group of individuals attacked Boulevard team players as they attempted to leave in a taxi.

No injuries were reported, however the taxi’s rear window was reportedly smashed in with a shovel.

Following the incident, an increased Police presence in the area resulted in three arrests, Mr. Jackson added.
