BIOS holding silent auction this weekend

A day tagging sharks and a bicycle ride through Vietnam are just some of the prizes up for grabs at a bonfire beach party this weekend.

The Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) is inviting Islanders of all ages to join in the fun-filled event at Tucker's Point Beach Club. The fundraiser will have a more laid-back vibe than the oceanographic institute's usual events, and promises to be a night to remember, with exotic drinks, a silent auction, music, food and dancing.

The entertainment starts at 7 p.m., followed by dinner and music and dancing. At 11 p.m. the party will move closer to the beach with a bonfire, cash bar and more live music.

Among the prizes in the Silent Auction are: a day of research tagging sharks; a biking trip through Vietnam; a week's stay in a privately-owned house in St. Barths; four mezzanine tickets on the 35 yard line at the Superbowl XLII rematch — Giants vs Patriots; and a science cruise on the UNOLS fleet ship and BIOS research vessel, the Bank of Bermuda Atlantic Explorer.

The BIOS Beach Party starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 28. Tickets are available from Vanessa Shorto on 297-1880 (extension 204), or email vanessa.shorto@bios.edu">vanessa.shorto@bios.edu.
