Adderley sails her way to victory
Sara Lane Adderley won The 2007 Laser Radial Nationals at the weekend by displaying some very consistent form.
There were four races held on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Saturday was sailed in 10-15 knot westerlys filled with 20 degree windshifts making good tactics more important than pure boat speed. Adderley was most consistent, winning two of the days races with Stevie Dickinson and Ryan Saraiva winning one each. At the end of the first day Adderley was leading with Oliver Riihilouma in second and Brett Wright in third.
Sunday brought an extremely inconsistent easterly wind that never reached more than five knots. After several attempts at starting, the first race of the day eventually got underway with Malcolm Smith, who was unfortunately only able to sail on the Sunday, winning and the ever consistant Riihilouma coming in second.
In what turned out to be the last race due to the deteriating wind, Cameron Pimentel took charge winning over Riihilouma and Saraiva.
At the end both Adderley (1st, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 4th, 10th)and Riihilouma (3rd, 2nd, 4th, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd) finished on eleven points, with Adderley winning on countback by virtue of having two first place finishes to Riihilouma’s none.
Brett Wright was third and Ryan Saraiva fourth.
This Regatta qualified the top male and female as well as the top two male youth for the 2008 World Championships in New Zealand.
