Capturing the spirit of 'Casablanca'
The Ocean Terrace of Elbow Beach is to be transformed into Rick’s Cafe, giving romantics everywhere the chance to act out a scene from one of their favourite movies.
Transport yourself back to the Roaring Forties on June 23, when Project Change Bermuda stages a black tie Casablanca Casino Night. Christopher Johnson, chairman of the charity, said: “The event is strictly black tie and evening gowns so that we can capture the spirit of the movie ‘Casablanca.’”
Project Change Bermuda provides plastic and reconstructive surgery to indigent patients in Third World countries. Founded three years ago, it relies on the donations of individuals, companies and community groups.
The next charity project takes place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from July 15-29.
Mr. Johnson said: “We will be performing burn reconstruction, cleft lip and palate repair, and hand reconstruction for children. Our team consists of three physicians, four nurses and an administrator. In order to provide this much needed care, we are soliciting your help. “This mission represents the essence of what compassion is all about.
“This charitable venture will, without doubt, open doors for some of the children of Tanzania, allowing them an opportunity to live a normal life free of ostracism as a result of their disfigurements. The mission partly depends on financial contributions from the public and business sector.”
The Casablanca Casino Night fundraiser features casino games, food, drinks and entertainment, and organisers are appealing for monetary donations and raffle prizes.
The event takes place between 8p.m. and 12a.m on June 23.
Tickets are $200, available from International Plastic Surgery Associates, Sea Venture Building, 19 Parliament Street, Hamilton, HM 02. Telephone: 292 2000.
Please send your donations to the project to: Dr. Christopher Johnson at the above address.
