Alvin Wilson
With a partner, Mr. Wilson set up the Bermuda Financial Network and is vice president and managing director of the firm.
Married with three children, he believes in providing opportunities for young people: “We must provide outlets for them, whether it be sports clubs or mentoring programmes, so that they can channel their energy in positive ways.
“Education is key — we must improve our formal education system as well as providing after-school programmes to help those who might otherwise fall through the cracks.”
Mr. Wilson is a regular churchgoer, he was an early member and a board member of STAR. He also sat on the executive committee that founded the Bermuda Hospice.
“Today more than ever in Bermuda, we need people in politics who will bring the community together. I promise to do just that if I am elected.”
Goals for Sandys:
* Create an after-school programme to help students with homework and with reading, writing and mathematics.
* a graffiti removal team.
* Upgrade the facilities at Long Bay Beach with restrooms and changing facilities.
* Work with churches and community groups to meet the emergency needs of the poor, and help them towards self-sufficiency through life-coaching.
* Maximise the use of White Hill Field, the Railway Trail, Hog Bay Level Park, Wreck Estate Beach, Fort Scaur and The Haydon Trust for events to promote community cohesion.
* Create positive outlets for young people so they will resist the lure of gang culture.
